Oasis Inn at Death Valley
I added these photos of the Oasis Inn to illustrate the meaning of "oasis" which the Inn truly defines. It was built in 1927 and renovated at the cost of $100,000,000 dollars in 2018. The buildings and grounds are truly incredible. The resort site was chosen because of the underlying fresh water spring. As you may see in the introductory image below, it is completely surrounded by desert in the Furnace Creek region of Death Valley. While Death Valley is designated a national park, the Inn has always been privately held.

Death Valley Junction
In 1967, Marta Becket, formerly a Radio City Music Hall and Broadway dancer moved to California with her husband and rented and maintained this property in Death Valley Junction, a gateway to Death Valley from the east. The buildings had been previously used as a social hall for workers at Pacific Coast Borax in Death Valley. Marta redecorated the hall and performed dances in her style to curious locals and tourists for many years before retiring in 2012. This funky site resides on the National Register of Historic Places. As is true with Death Valley itself, the Opera House is truly unique.
