Small Mammals

The Prairie Dog is an herbivorous burrowing rodent native to the grasslands of North America. The Black-tailed Prairie Dog (above) is different from other prairie dogs in that it does not truly hibernate in the winter. It forages during the day and rests in a state of torpor at night. It is found on the Great Plains from the US-Canada border to the US-Mexico border.
